A Brother...

is a man committed to living the Consecrated Life in response to a call from God.  Brothers are engaged in a variety of ministries in keeping with the charism of their congregation and model the person of Jesus through the relational manner in which they serve.

2007 Pre-Convention Summary

In the Footsteps of Christ Our Brother:
A Symposium on Brotherhood

Thirty-Sixth Annual RBC Convention
July 27 – 30, 2007
St. Louis Marriott West Hotel
St. Louis, Missouri

In preparation for this Convention the Board of Trustees discussed a variety of concerns about Brotherhood in the United States as well as likely issues facing Brothers today. Without outlining or summarizing all that was discussed, there was a sense of agreement in the conversations that Brothers today, need to recognize and accept what we have, and what we have going for us. Without blaming the past, blaming leadership or looking back to the “good old days”, we need to “say yes” the reality of today and once again, “read the signs of the times.” It was the feeling of the Board that the findings of the CARA Study will point to some of that reality.

The Board invited Brother Stephen Glodek, Provincial of the Marianists’ United States Province to be our Keynote Presenter. Brother Stephen intends to use scriptural images to help the assembly explore some of the implications of the CARA Study. He will also assist us in looking at some of the essential elements of Brotherhood for the 21st Century.

Sister Mary Bendyna, RSM Executive Director of CARA, was also invited to offer the final results of the “Study on Brothers in the United States”. This Study was sponsored by the Religious Brothers Conference.

For your information, the components of this study were:
A random sampling of Brothers in the United States
Four Focus Groups
One consisting of Brothers within ten years of taking vows
Two groups of Brothers of various ages
The final one consisting of men 20 and older who are looking at the Brotherhood as an option
The final component was a survey of Brother Novices while they were in their respective Novitiates.

Members of Oregon Catholic Press (OCP) were invited to assist us with Liturgies and Prayer Services. They will also offer a Workshop to those interested in Music Ministry.
